Mine was a 1985 A-plus model just like Batman’s. It might be cheap to run and in terms with size and a hatchback, more versatile than an Allegro but build quality was patchy and rust has seen so many end up in the scrapyards.
I’ve owned 5 Metros (10 if you include copmany cars) still have one! and I’ve never had to have the suspension pumped up on any of them. The Hydragas gave the car a superb ride especially when cornering, even better on the K-Series Rover Metros which were set up as Alex Moulton wanted, Also had great boot space for such a small car.
Anyway the advert is a hoot!, try looking for “Tug that tassle” an advert made for the Mini (Real Mini that is) which was pulled after a few competitors complained.
The Achilles heel in the original and slightly facelifted version (shown here) is not the A-plus engine but the suspension that caused the tyres to wear out in the corners.
Very funny advert nowadays for the Metro was a rather poor car and no wonder why Austin Rover was on the long long road to ruin with its own reputation.

The Metro was ok for its time but the Hydragas suspension required pumping to maintain the correct wheel balance.
What’s your problem, the Metro was a pretty decent car for it’s day, look at the competition at the time, not perfect, but what car was?
awesome…..

I still got an Austin Metro: I drive her everyday!

Fabulous — I always know my Metro was cool when I drove it all those years ago.
I now feel vindicated — thank you Dan.
